  • There's a time and place for this bourbon, but for the money I’d rather reach for many of the other fantastic bottles that play in this price range.

  • Nicely balanced, with candied fruit, blackberry jam, soft vanilla, kettle corn, and a kiss of mint. Pleasant, unpretentious, and uncomplicated.

  • Jefferson’s Very Small Batch is cheap, light, smooth, and manages to retain a decent character. If you’re looking for something new to try in the low-mid $20s this would definitely fit the bill.

  • Surprisingly uncomplicated with nothing really to recommend or speak against it. Almost boring.

  • Extremely youthful. It’ll get there, but it’s a work in progress. Mildly dismaying they couldn’t blend away the youth, but when using stock that is clearly this young, those less desirable youthful notes will always be present.

  • Nose:

Young, corn forward. Vanilla bean, light caramel, some baking spice. A bit of grain.

  • Taste:

Thin on the palate, with signs of obvious youth. No real heat, but the green wood notes and musty grain makes it clear that not only is this a very small batch - it’s also a very young one.

  • Finish:

    Short, musty, grass and hay.

  • Overall:

Extremely youthful. It’ll get there, but it’s a work in progress. Mildly dismaying they couldn’t blend away the youth, but when using stock that is clearly this young, those less desirable youthful notes will always be present.
