Jefferson’s Presidential Select 17 Years Old Bourbon is bottled from hand-selected barrels of 100% Stitzel-Weller distillate. This limited-edition offering features a suggested retail price of $4,500.
The taste is spicy, aromatic, and strong with black pepper and chili powder notes that fade to sweet vanilla and maple syrup. The finish is dark chocolate syrup and cinnamon, and it’s an amazing bourbon!
Curiously, this is a wheated bourbon — wheat is used as a secondary grain alongside corn instead of rye. The difference is interesting — and positive: There’s no spicy character here, and Jefferson’s 17 is better integrated and silkier than you’d expect, with nice balance. Very much worth seeking out, and not as expensive as you might figure.
