Jameson Blender’s Dog, produced by Midleton Distillery in Ireland, is a blend of single pot still and single grain Irish whiskey, aged in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks for at least three years. Bottled at 43% ABV, it is non-chill filtered and priced at about $70.
As the palate develops, the whiskey runs to honey, then red raspberry, before leading to a surprising chocolate note that seemingly comes out of nowhere. The finish has more of a bite than I’d expected, slightly vegetal at times but decidedly Irish. Good stuff.
The taste has an excellent balance as spicy notes of clove, nutmeg, and cinnamon blend with honey, vanilla, and a touch of oak for a rich mouthfeel. The finish is long, aromatic, and spicy with a good underlying sweetness. Excellent!
