  • This is a whiskey that would likely benefit from a big ice cube.

  • I understand the reason for releasing it at cask strength, but a whiskey this strong is hard to drink very much of (and probably not advisable to do so).

  • This is an acquired taste, but I imagine there are some drinkers out there for whom it would specifically register as nirvana.

  • Personally, I can’t wait to try it in cocktails. Can I interest anyone in a turbocharged Gold Rush?

  • A fun and surprisingly agreeable “hazmat” whiskey but still not for the faint of heart.

  • Delicious. Eighteen years in the barrel bottled north of 140 proof? Whiskey enthusiasts and proof chasers are sure to adore this, and I don't think you'll go wrong seeking it out.

  • Nose:

Rich nose with plenty going on. Custard, clove, cinnamon, fluffy banana muffins, orange peel, milk chocolate caramels. Delicious nose, but enjoy it in small whiffs: This is a hazmat-proof whiskey, and you'll definitely get some burn with too deep of an inhale.

  • Taste:

Hot (but not unmanageably so considering the ABV) but flavorful. Leather, Luxardo cherry, molasses, chocolate-coated walnuts, banana pudding, oak and tannin.

  • Finish:

Long finish with a big coconut note, plus custard, oak and a prick of ethanol.

  • Overall:

Delicious. Eighteen years in the barrel bottled north of 140 proof? Whiskey enthusiasts and proof chasers are sure to adore this, and I don't think you'll go wrong seeking it out. It's hot and powerful, but it definitely doesn't drink as hot as its proof.
