J.P. Wiser’s 18 Year Old Blended Canadian Whisky is produced by Pernod Ricard at the Hiram Walker & Sons distillery in Windsor, Ontario. Made from corn and column distilled, it matures for 18 years in ex-bourbon casks and is bottled at 40% ABV.
I can’t help but think this whisky would benefit from a higher proof bottling. The finish is long and smooth and does indeed show mature wood flavors, but is not exactly complex.
A 3/10 may seem a bit harsh, as there are no glaring faults or unpleasantnesses that would normally be required to merit such a low score (except for the lacklustre mouth experience). But I considered and mulled, and it’s simply too boring for a four. This is a disappointing whisky.
