Lots of orchard fruit — apple and pear — on the nose, plus caramel and a touch of pepper.
The palate is pleasant and sweet, and the mouthfeel moderate — not as thin as you'd expect for a sub-$20, 80-proof scotch. Brown sugar, red apple and black tea.
The finish is short, concluding with honey, a bit of tobacco and a little ethanol.
For the price, this is rock solid. It shows its youth a bit on the finish, but the nose and palate are great, performing well beyond what you'd expect from an 8-year scotch. All in all, this is a light and easy-drinking scotch.
