Produced by Ian Macleod Distillers in Scotland, Isle of Skye 18 Years Old is a blend of peated island malts, Speyside and Highland malts and grain whiskies.
Coils of smoke snake out of the glass, leaving behind honey, sweet grain notes, grated milk chocolate, a few green herbal notes, and a gentle oakiness. It’s noticeably smoky rather than peaty.
The palate is a curious departure from the nose with flavor notes of buttery caramel, green bell pepper, warm baking spices, salted pretzels, and a hint of chocolate cake.
