Isle of Raasay Hebridean Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made at the Isle of Raasay Distillery on the Hebridean island north of Skye. The distillery produces both peated and unpeated whisky from 100% Scottish barley, then blends the two and matures them separately in first fill rye whiskey, fresh Chinkapin oak and first fill Bordeaux red wine casks. It's bottled at 46.4% ABV and sells for around $70.
First thing that I notice is the thin mouthfeel. That’s a shame. Subtle peat, a fair amount of smoked barley husks and peanut skins, and a touch of rubber too. Some ashy mezcal, a pinch of pepper and lemon zest to finish things off.
