Islay Mist is a blended Scotch whisky produced by MacDuff International and bottled at 40% ABV. At the core of this blend is single malt whisky from Laphroaig distillery on Islay, blended with undisclosed Speyside malts and grain whiskies. The brand was originally created in 1927 at Laphroaig distillery to celebrate the 21st birthday of Lord Margadale's son and sells for around $24.
Aromatic hints of gentle smoke and blackcurrant with a savoury undertone. Light mineral peat smoke on the palate gives texture, culminating in a dry, flinty finish reminiscent of cold bonfire evenings.
Again, it’s a bit briny, with notes of brown banana, some tobacco, and nougat all melding nicely on the finish. A great bargain for a whisky that is, at least, Islay-adjacent.
