Indri Drú Cask Strength, an Indian single malt whisky, is bottled at 57.2% ABV and matured in ex-bourbon casks. Produced from six-row barley grown on a single farm, it is floor malted and distilled in pot stills. The whisky matures in the subtropical climate of Northern India, where its annual evaporation reaches 10 to 12%, accelerating maturation. Non-chill filtered with no added color, Batch 01 was released in June 2023 for around $79.99. The distillery, operational since 2012, produces four million liters annually and employs renewable energy and organic farming.
The nose has touches of caramel candy, vanilla beans, nutmeg, cinnamon, and orange peel. The taste is spicy with cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice notes balanced by orange peel, apricots, and peaches.
It takes water well and reveals its layers, but neat, there’s a fathomless pool of dark chocolate, supported by orange, vanilla pod, praline, clove, warm honey, and Brazil nut. This one is a real late-night treat.
