Hoste Cocktails' ready-to-drink spin on the Perfect Manhattan — a riff on the classic Manhattan that's traditionally made with rye whiskey and equal parts sweet and dry vermouths — this bottled cocktail is centered around a 5-year-old single-grain rye whisky distilled by the Finnish distillery Kyrö. Mixed in with the whiskey is a blend of sweet and dry vermouths from Little City Vermouth. The sweet vermouth is made with cayuga white grapes, Vietnamese cinnamon, cascara bark, sarsaparilla, eucalyptus, orange peel, hibiscus and vanilla. The dry is made with cayuga white grapes, passion flower, rose hips, ginger, tangerine peel, grapefruit peel, marigold and jasmine. The final ingredient is Hoste's own bespoke cherry bitters, crafted from Rainier cherries, wild cherry bark, quassia, cinchona, cinnamon, lemon peel, Madagascar vanilla, star anise and wormwood. The 750-milliliter cocktail is bottled at 35% ABV, has a suggested retail price of $80 and serves 10 cocktails. It comes with a lemon zest atomizer.

and Hoste's in-house cherry bitters.

  • A really delightful RTD cocktail. I wish the rye stood up to the vermouth a bit more, but it's delicious nevertheless.

  • Cigar tobacco and oak aromas lead to a drying palate with a tart cherry hint and brisk, caraway-accented finish.

  • The most interesting part of the drink is that Finnish rye — I mean, that’s just way out there — but I’d probably rather taste it on its own than in a cocktail.

  • Nose:

The nose is led by the vermouth: herbaceous and vegetal. Plenty of the dry vermouth comes through. Some dusty rye grain is detectable, as well.

  • Taste:

The palate is extraordinarily distinctive. Loads of vermouth dances nicely with grainy, spice-laden rye whiskey that I'd love to try neat — it's got a really distinctive flavor profile that adds nicely to this cocktail. It's nutty and spicy, and works well with the herbaceous vermouth character

  • Finish:

This cocktail finishes long, with lots of dry vermouth character brushing up against walnut husk, cherry and a touch of smoke.

  • Overall:

A really delightful RTD cocktail. I wish the rye stood up to the vermouth a bit more, but it's delicious nevertheless.

  • Score:
