  • It could be doctored with some additional citrus bitters or sweetener, but ultimately, this stands on its own as a well-composed bottled cocktail.

  • Nose:

Vanilla, hard candies and a vaguely medicinal note I'd liken to menthol.

  • Taste:

Make no mistake, this is a stiff cocktail through and through. The main flavor combo is rye whiskey and honey, underlined by sharp hints of candied orange peel, vanilla and lingering oak. Alcohol soaks into the palate with a piquant bite.

  • Finish:

Sweetness creeps up on the backend and coats the throat. If the palate was a tug of war between liquor and honey, then honey definitely wins out in the finish.

  • Overall:

A great Old Fashioned stuffed with just a smidge too much honey flavor. If you like your cocktails strong and sweet. Hochstadter's Rock and Rye while provide gobs of each.
