  • It’s got a cozy, library vibe, which we enjoyed. An easy drinkin’ sipper. Drink it neat.

  • The taste starts off soft, then develops a great spiciness with clove, cinnamon, toasted oak, dill, honey, a touch of smokiness, and pipe tobacco.

  • This complex whiskey shows caramel, espresso and cocoa up front, and finishes exceedingly long with leather, cigar wrapper, orange peel, allspice, and even a whiff of campfire smoke.

  • Nose:

Super herbal and spicy — off the bat I can already tell this will rule in a Manhattan. Anise, pine, amaro, orange peel, pear, clove, brioche, almond. Really enjoyable and distinctive nose, if a touch grainy.

  • Taste:

Moderate mouthfeel. A wildly distinctive and rich flavor profile brings lots of anise and brioche, as well as cinnamon, almonds, clove, tobacco and black pepper.

  • Finish:

Big brioche continues on the finish, joined by almonds, blueberry, charcoal, black tea, cherry, cardamom, lemon poppyseed muffins and sassafras.

  • Overall:

Wow. This incredibly, wildly distinctive rye whiskey has blown me away. A bottle of this is only $50? Steal.

  • Score:
