  • Not bad compared to Act 5, but not as good as the earlier batches. The new make notes are pretty jarring compared to that rich, complex rye spice that blended so well with port finishes. Hopefully Act 8 brings back some complexity next year. (Scene 2)

  • This is a nice pour, and High West has knocked the marketing out of the park. Each time it dips below zero here in Maine I find myself thinking “Tonight’s a MWND night”. (Scene 1)

  • The taste is full of plums, raspberries, and hints of ginger, clove, allspice, and molasses. The finish is long and spicy with a hint of dark fruits.

  • I feel like this had the capacity to be sort of weird. Blending several different whiskies can get muddled and cloudy and barrel finishing isn’t always 100%successful in my book, but this comes together really, really well. (Scene 5)

  • The finish is lengthy and layered, with cough syrup, dark berries, chocolate, and cola.

  • Pretty, fun, and well-balanced, it remains a go-to whiskey for special occasions — or simply for sipping with dessert. (Scene 6)

  • Nose:

Lots of big berry notes here. All sweet. Blackberry, raspberry, black cherry. Lightly musty, some pepper.

  • Taste:

Thin to medium mouth feel, heat feels pretty in check. Lots of musty sweetness, faint clove, allspice, raspberry and black berry. New make note.

  • Finish:

Medium length, sweet and juicy, faint pepper. Lacking a big bold rye spice I'd like to see balance out all this sweet.

  • Overall:

Not bad compared to Act 5, but not as good as the earlier batches. The new make notes are pretty jarring compared to that rich, complex rye spice that blended so well with port finishes. Hopefully Act 8 brings back some complexity next year.
