  • While hot on the nose, the body drinks just perfectly — silky with just the right amount of power to back things up.

  • The moderately long finish offers up oak and toasty spice that the incautious might be tempted to call curry-like, a quality, real or imagined, that helps make for a mean Perfect Manhattan.

  • While the era of whiskey that produced the original Bourye won’t likely be repeated again due to it’s popularity it’s awesome to see High West making solid attempts to catch that lightning again.

  • I have several of High Wests ryes but I think Bourye is my favorite, to date. It also consistently towers all over a lot of the other standard ryes that I have. Plus I'm partial to the jackelope, so there's that.

  • Bourye is clearly a sophisticated, soft, and balanced approach to rye.

  • A blend consisting of a nice pedigree of aged whiskeys that just delivers too mundane of an experience for the price.

  • It leans more toward a rye whiskey than a bourbon in flavor profile.

  • Nose:

Much spice. Also some oaky wood and a nice peppery kick

  • Taste:

A nice complex vanilla, caramel rye blend. I really like this over a lot of the other ryess that I have. Theres some alcohol burn but it really compliments the rye kick well and doesnt make me feel like Ive just done a beer bong straight from a gas pump. Theres a lot of depth and complexity, vanilla, toffee, some cocoa, nice rye clove. Its sweet and its also got enough spice to balance very well.

  • Finish:

Everything blends nicely on the way out, theres a lingering spicy vanilla note all the way down and each sip Im left hoping for another.

  • Overall:

I have several of High Wests ryes but I think Bourye is my favorite, to date. It also consistently towers all over a lot of the other standard ryes that I have. Plus I'm partial to the jackelope, so there's that.
