  • This cask strength wheated bourbon delivers a pleasing, unique sip that is unlike other cask strength wheated bourbons on the market.

  • Slightly doughy on the nose, the whiskey melds ample aromas of barrel char, barbecued meats, sagebrush, with some lighter sweetness — macaroons, vanilla wafers — to create a cohesive yet vaguely frontier-like experience.

  • At cask strength, the taste is a little peppery, but not tough to drink neat.

  • Nose:

Creamy and toasty on the nose, lots of creamed corn, butterscotch, some toffee and honey. Light, sweet , creamy, full of wheat and corn.

  • Taste:

Pleasant on the palate, full of funk and nutmeg. Praline, a bit of must, creamed corn, some toffee and a bit of young wood.

  • Finish:

Short finish — pleasant but creamy and full of oatmeal, toffee, some buttercream and more pecan.

  • Overall:

This is a weird pour. On paper it’s well aged, but on the palate, it’s got a bit to be desired as the creamy, oaty, nutty profile presents a but unfinished and underaged. Heaven’s Door’s been on a string of victories lately, but this isn’t my favorite among the brand's recent releases. It's a cool story, but the whiskey could use more time.
