  • The red and blue fruits are met with a jolt of spice that will delight rye whiskey fans, before delivering earthy, leathery, tobacco leaf on the finish. Big in oak flavors, but not overdone.

  • It has a nutty taste which I associate with some Jim Beam and Tennessee whiskeys. The nutty flavor is not my preference, but I give it a 3.5 because it does morph a bit sip by sip, changing slightly making it more fun.

  • The palate leads with oak, then toasty vanilla and dried apricot, with a long, warming, peppery finish. Adding water brings out softer honey and chamomile notes.

House Review
  • Nose:

    The proof bump is noticeable and welcome (the rest of the portfolio is 45-46 proof). Brown sugar, maple, fresh buttered rolls, some toffee and light pepper.

  • Taste:

    Rich on the palate, sweet and easy drinking. Honey, toffee, rich cream and butter. Toffee, orange peel, peppery.

  • Finish:

    Long finish. A bit bitter, the proof is apparent here. A bit hot, though there's plenty of butter cream, honey, orange peel, white cracked pepper and a hint of floral sweetness.

  • Overall:

    Overall, this drinks a little less complex than the Bourbon, but the viscosity and long finish make up for it with ease. Very good, though I bet this would be phenomenal with a couple extra years and proof points added in.
