  • The palate’s a bit of a bruiser off the bat, and the barrel has definitely had its way with this whiskey. Gritty and laced with petrol, there’s a rumbling frontier character on display that fires off palate-searing notes of gunpowder, scorched sugar, cloves, and dried tobacco elements, one on top of the other.

  • For some drinkers, this will be too oaky. But if you can withstand that, there's a remarkably rich and delicious profile to be savored.

  • Nose:

Rich, decadent nose. Wow. Delicious. Molasses, maple, Demerara, cherry, caramel, oak, buttercream, crème brûlée, blackberry, toasted marshmallow. Just a beautiful nose I could smell all night long.

  • Taste:

Big oak presence blasts the palate immediately, followed by almonds and walnuts, cinnamon, clove, vanilla, blackberry, leather, tobacco.

  • Finish:

Blackberry, clove, cinnamon, banana bread and a sprig of mint. The finish extends a bit into overly tannic territory — a minor knock on a wonderful whiskey.

  • Overall:

A wonderful, very oaky and tannic bourbon. It’s incredibly rich, luscious, deep and very delicious, albeit quite oak-heavy, particularly on the finish. For some drinkers, this will be too oaky. But if you can withstand that, there's a remarkably rich and delicious profile to be savored.
