The 2023 release of the Heaven Hill Heritage Collection is a 20-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Corn Whiskey. Made from 80% corn, 12% malted barley and 8% rye, it was distilled in October 2002. Aged in 110 barrels on the third floor of rickhouse 1K at the Bernheim Distillery in Louisville, Kentucky, it is bottled at 115 proof.
There's an elegant spark of spicy heat in the finish, as well as the fresh apple peel note from the nose, but these are well balanced by the other spicy and rich elements. Nothing musty about this dusty!
The whiskey rides the line of being too bitter but pulls through right at the end with a nice finish and just a hint of sweetness. I can't say the whiskey is worth the exorbitant price tag I'm seeing online, but it's well worth trying if you like corn whiskey and can get your hands on it!
I don’t imagine this will hit the stratospheric prices or cult following that the 2022 HHHC demanded, though I’m sure Mellow Corn fanatics are gonna totally freak out.
