A reintroduction of a once cult favorite KY only product, Heaven Hill 7yr Bottled in Bond replaces the old 6yr Bottled in Bond, complete with an extra year of aging and new packaging.
I’m looking forward to trying this again when a new seasonal batch comes out. That’s one of the fun, and sometimes frustrating, things about bonded products. They can, and do, change with the seasons.
I feel many will wonder what the fuss was about. Instead, what they will discover is a decent bourbon that is no longer worth getting overly excited about.
I admire the nod to tradition here. Bottled-in-bond might seem a bit dated and archaic, but it's honest and transparent, and I respect that; especially in an industry trending towards flashy non-age statement releases.
All told, it’s not exactly a masterwork, but it’s much better than many other bourbons on the market selling at higher prices than this. The bottled-in-bond abv doesn’t hurt; this is a whiskey that can stand up to being knocked around a bit by some booziness — and maybe even come out ahead in the process.
Overall, this is nice. It drinks quite a bit differently from the old 6yr BiB that was like $9 or something silly, in a good way. Much more complex, though fans of more oak and spice will be most drawn to this bottle.

House Review
Nose:
Baking spice, toffee, cocoa and a bit of vanilla bean. There’s a bit of oak here, quite a bit on the nose.
Taste:
Thin to medium mouth feel. Some honey, pepper, a bit of dry oak. A little cream and cocoa. Not mega complex. For 50% the ethanol is very well priced. Dry and spicy on the back palate.
Finish:
Long finish, but spicy and dry. Praline, brown sugar, pepper, and cinnamon.
