Released in May 2025, this is the fourth whiskey collaboration between the superb Indiana craft distiller Hard Truth and Mellencamp Whiskey Co., which is run by Hud Mellencamp, son of singer-songwriter John Mellencamp. Named American Odd after one of John Mellencamp's favorite paintings, this Bottled-In-Bond bourbon is crafted from 100% Indiana grains. The mashbill is 82% Indiana corn from fifth-generation Indiana farmer Doug Miller, whose farm is 60 miles from the distillery. The rest of the mashbill is 18% corn grown in southwestern Indiana by farmer Dr. Duane Kuhlenschmidt. This bourbon has a suggested retail price of $69.99.

  • This is a bourbon that's very sweet, but that sweetness is balanced out by plenty of rye spice.

  • Nose:

Pleasant nose of brown sugar, plum, cherry, cranberry, cinnamon and oak.

  • Taste:

Quite viscous. Spiced and dark fruit-forward. The palate is really distinctive and so full of dried, dark fruits that it almost tastes like a port or cognac finish. Cherry, plum and blackberry, plus frosted gingerbread, cinnamon, pepper, waffle cone and allspice.

  • Finish:

Maple, luxardo cherry, French vanilla, tobacco and a bit of tannin.

  • Overall:

A distinctive, very tasty bourbon that melds sweetness, spice and plenty of dark fruits. This is a bourbon that's very sweet, but that sweetness is balanced out by plenty of rye spice. This is delicious stuff. Hard Truth continues to be one of America's best under-the-radar producers.
