Coming to us from Indiana's Hard Truth Distilling Co., this is one of four whiskeys released in late 2023 as part of the Barrel Finished Reserve Collection. A blend of three barrels, this whiskey was finished in casks that previously held sauternes — a French, sweet, white dessert wine — and bottled at 110 proof.

  • This is a great release, balancing sauternes sweetness, rye spice and a touch of bold oak. Sauternes finishes are tricky to nail, but Hard Truth does a great job here.

  • Nose:

Sweet and bready on the nose with caramel, brioche, sweet honey and a touch of pear and rye spice.

  • Taste:

Pleasant on the palate with plenty of rye and sauternes influence here. Sweet, brioche dessert character meets bold spice, rye and sweet oak, plus a hint of spiced pears and white grape.

  • Finish:

Long, peppery finish loaded with caramel sweetness.

  • Overall:

This is a great release, balancing sauternes sweetness, rye spice and a touch of bold oak. Sauternes finishes are tricky to nail, but Hard Truth does a great job here.
