Coming to us from Indiana's Hard Truth Distilling Co., this is one of four whiskeys released in late 2023 as part of the Barrel Finished Reserve Collection. A blend of two barrels, this whiskey is distilled from a mashbill of 94% rye and 6% malted barley, finished in Pedro Ximénez brandy casks and bottled at 114 proof.

  • The most unique of the Barrel Finish releases, the PX brandy imparts a ton of raisin character — something I love but not everyone may feel the same about.

  • Nose:

Sweet and raisin-heavy on the nose. Quite heavy on the raisin character, honey, toffee and cocoa.

  • Taste:

Sweet on the palate once more. There's a noticeable uptick in maple sweetness, sweet pipe tobacco and raisin notes. It’s rich, powerful, lovely.

  • Finish:

Long finish, heavy on the raisin once more with notes of brioche, toffee, honey and pepper.

  • Overall:

The most unique of the Barrel Finish releases, the PX brandy imparts a ton of raisin character — something I love but not everyone may feel the same about.

  • Score:

    88
