Distilled from a mashbill of 94% rye and 6% malted barley, this rye whiskey was finished in a mix of cognac, sauternes, PX sherry and PX brandy casks. In 2023, Hard Truth released a series of rye whiskeys finished in all of those casks, individually, so this is essentially a blend of those. After blending, the final whiskey was rested on toasted Jupilles French oak before being bottled at cask strength. Here's how the blend breaks down: 31% cognac finish; 26% sauternes finish; 26% PX sherry finish; and 17% PX brandy finish. Only 11 barrels were produced.

  • It's complex, powerful, bold, balanced and delicious — despite being 3-year-old whiskey. Hard Truth might just be the best indie rye whiskey producer in America.

  • Nose:

Pleasant and complex on the nose. Powdered sugar, grape jelly, cherry pie filing, cinnamon, cardamom, clove, butterscotch and orange peel.

  • Taste:

Loads of tobacco, tannin and buttercream frosting meet deep, rich cherry syrup, espresso, clove and a kiss of spearmint.

  • Finish:

Oak, cherry, dark chocolate, walnuts, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom and blackberry.

  • Overall:

I loved 2023's finished whiskey series that this is a blend of, and I have to say that this bottling is even better than the sum of its parts. It's complex, powerful, bold, balanced and delicious — despite being 3-year-old whiskey. Hard Truth might just be the best indie rye whiskey producer in America, and I am incredibly excited for its future.
