Hancock's President's Reserve is a single barrel bourbon produced by Sazerac's Buffalo Trace Distillery. It has proof of 88.9 and is made using an undisclosed high-rye mashbill.
I think this one is getting too low in proof for me to enjoy regularly. But some days when you are tired and just need an easy sipper, this could definitely be it, if you can somehow find it for below MSRP.
The most prominent note is actually one of honey dissolved in a dark tea which lingers into the medium-length finish with just a bit of rye spice. While Elmer it’s not, Hancock’s Reserve is an entirely approachable and serviceable bourbon, perfect for newbie straight sippers or those looking for an easy drinking pour.
Hancock’s is younger and more corn-forward to be sure, but it holds its own quite well and balances that youth with a creamy mouthfeel and enough oak to give the flavors a body to roll with.
The odd man out in Buffalo Trace Distillery’s lineup of single barrel bourbons, Hancock’s President’s Reserves delivers a forgettable pour to go along with its equally forgettable appearance.
