After years of attempting to hyper-age whiskey to cheat time, with frankly dreadful and dismal results, Green River in Owensoboro, Kentucky has seen the light. The brand pivoted to traditional distilling and aging practices several years back, and the fruits of their labor are now ready for public consumption. This Kentucky Straight Bourbon is their first release under their own brand, and the craftsmanship in the display alone is impressive. Produced from a mashbill of 70% corn, 21% rye and 9% malted barley. It's worth noting that Green River Distilling is one of Kentucky's oldest distilleries, though clearly not always in production. Bearing DSP-KY-10, it's one of the OG's, to say the least, if history is your thing. Let's dive in.

Brown sugar, toffee, a bit of oak. A touch rough, some ethanol here but it’s not unbridled. Sweet cream, honey, praline and a nice buttered roll note.
Medium on the palate, sweet and well balanced. Honey, toffee, barrel char, root beer candies, a bit of cocoa. Nice tannins. Impressive!
Long finish. Easily the best part - honey, toffee, butterscotch, root beer candies, a nice bit of oak, cocoa and espresso. Complex.
Delightful! Well done from Green River, a nice start on their journey and an excellent first stepping stone.
