  • Great Jones starts in a relatively benign position with its rye, and I look forward to watching this whiskey pick up age, complexity and some proof as the operation and its barrels continue to age.

  • There's lots going on in this medium finish whiskey, but the flavors are well rounded, and it's very pleasant to sip neat. As a base for a Manhattan, well, better start spreading the news...

  • The rye is my favorite of the three from Great Jones. For $40, I’d happily buy this and put it next to the other ryes on my bar.

  • There’s balance here, with a finish that is medium in length. This is a nice sipping rye at a good price point and would serve brilliantly in cocktails.

  • Nose:

Oaky char, some wood, toffee, pepper, clove and rye bread. Honey and faint almond sweetness.

  • Taste:

Thin on the palate, lightly oaky. Some pepper, clove, orange peel and pear. White grape juice. Not wildly complex, but pleasant enough.

  • Finish:

Long finish, a touch hot. There’s pepper, brown sugar, white grapes and pears, light clove spice.

  • Overall:

Great Jones starts in a relatively benign position with its rye, and I look forward to watching this whiskey pick up age, complexity and some proof as the operation and its barrels continue to age.
