The Glenturret 12 Year Single Malt Scotch is matured in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks and bottled at 46% ABV without chill filtration or added color. It comes in a 750ml format and is priced at $99.50.
It’s so impressive how they crammed so much character into “just” 12 years old and 46% ABV. It’s dark and kind of heavy yet also tropical and lively at the same time, all wrapped up in a surprisingly oaky and spicy package. I don’t think I’ve ever had a sherried scotch this oaky or spicy before, but I’ll take it.
A well-balanced sherry influenced whisky, with some spicy ginger and cinnamon notes. I’d have possibly liked to see the fruity notes be more pronounced, the wood influence is more discernible particularly the oaky spice on the finish.
