Glenmorangie Signet is a Highland single malt Scotch whisky made from chocolate malt spirit, distilled twice in copper-pot stills. Aged in a blend of bourbon, sherry and virgin charred oak, it also includes some of Glenmorangie’s oldest whiskies, up to 40 years old. It's bottled at 46% ABV and non-chill-filtered.
It’s a bottle that I don’t gravitate to a lot, but which I keep in the dining room instead of on the shelf in the bar with all the other whiskies. It’s a really surprising experience if you don’t know what to expect… but fun all the same.
This whisky is a great example and a future reference point for me to experience gam; it ticks every single one of those boxes of what I understand the word to mean.
A touch of water opens up the dram to reveal dark chocolate and cocoa powder, with lingering hints of orange and vanilla that lead to a finish that reminds me of Grandma’s peach pie.
The finish is very long, offering vanilla custard sprinkled with chocolate flakes and cinnamon. Very well-integrated with deep, layered flavor creating a sublime whisky.
For those who aren’t Glenmo lovers, this gives folks something other than the usual bright and fruity whisky. It’s something deeper and darker to sink into and that has an appeal to a certain group of drinkers.
