Glenmorangie A Tale of the Forest is made from barley kilned with woodland botanicals such as juniper berries, birch bark and heather flowers. It's then aged in bourbon casks and bottled at 46% ABV.
A delightful welcoming scotch. Glenmorangie A Tale of the Forest is a very unique whisky that would be perfect for sipping on a rainy day. While the herbal notes are not for everyone it is great for those who like barrel aged gins and complex scotches.
It’s a well-built, if very unusual, whisky, ideal for exploring in the winter season. Although it might appeal more to smokeheads than Highland purists.
The familiar sweetness of vanilla and orange is draped with complex aromas created by kilning the barley over woodland botanicals including juniper berries, birch bark, heather, and peat.
I’m sifting through my mental catalog of almost 3,000 whiskies tasted and when I try to think of something similar to the Glenmorangie A Tale Of The Forest I come up empty, and that’s quite remarkable. It’s even more remarkable that it’s so good at the same time...

House Review
Nose:
Initially medicinal, the nose quickly opens into a symphony of herbal notes—fresh eucalyptus, sage, and smoked rosemary. Beneath it all lies a sweet backdrop of molasses and dried fruit, reminiscent of a rich Port.
Taste:
This whisky evokes the essence of a forest floor with the herbal notes continuing on and intertwining with wood spice and pine resin. There smokiness is present, similar to smoked rosemary it is rounded out by orange and vanilla.
Finish:
A touch of ashiness fades quickly, giving way to a lingering, fresh eucalyptus note with a cooling, almost minty quality.
Overall:
A delightful welcoming scotch. Glenmorangie A Tale of the Forest is a very unique whisky that would be perfect for sipping on a rainy day. While the herbal notes are not for everyone it is great for those who like barrel aged gins and complex scotches.
