  • What's going on here is overall a nice package, but a touch more oak, cognac and proof could take this from very good to something magnificent.

  • If this Glenmo mega vertical has shown us anything, it’s that the spirit can easily mesh with bigger flavors and come out awesome.

  • With more time to open, a subtle leathery quality arrives that adds welcome contrast to the classic distillery character. On the palate, the finishing is more immediately apparent with that white grape and spicy French oak shining brighter.

  • Nose:

Buttery toffee on the nose, plenty of malt character, faint musty sweetness, and a dollop of apple pie and spice. Touch of leather and pepper.

  • Taste:

Medium viscosity on the palate, a touch of heat despite the moderate proof. Sweet cream, a dash of honey, faint cognac influence, and a bit of pear, apple pie and raspberry. Light on tannin, light and sweet without becoming cloying.

  • Finish:

Short finish. A bit of disappointment here, hoping for a long cognac finish instead. Buttery sweetness, vanilla bean, cream, nougat and a touch of pepper and clove.

  • Overall:

The nose is interesting, the palate is quite nice, and the finish just can't hold up. What's going on here is overall a nice package, but a touch more oak, cognac and proof could take this from very good to something magnificent.
