Glenmorangie 12 Year Nectar D’or Sauternes Cask Finish

  • Distiller

    Glenmorangie

  • Bottler

    Glenmorangie

  • ABV

    46%

  • Age

    12 Years

  • Price $60 to $99.99

This is a Glenmorangie expression that takes the 10yr core expression and finishes it for 2 additional years in a suternes wine cask. It also gets a slight bump in proof, much like the Lasanta and the Quinta Ruban.

  • Great until the finish, which seems more or less like a pretty consistent gripe I have with some of these entry expressions from the core line.

  • Beside having a white wine palate experience, it also possesses a rich aroma character. I always recall the term "Liquid Gold" when I observe the bottle.

  • Clearly, this would make a great after dinner dram, but don't overlook daytime drinking snacking on some charcuterie. Ain't nothing wrong with that!

  • Very few spirits have such elegance and silky finesse. Good value, too.

  • Water opens it up nicely, and the finish reveals a nice spiciness with a hint of cinnamon.

  • Perhaps just a tad less complex than the early batches, but that’s not unseen in Scotland, is it.

  • The finish is long and oaky, with a fleeting return of apricots.

  • Nose:

Sweet honey, cake batter. Rich toffee. Buttery sweetness. Really sweet, light fruits, but mostly a caramel, toffee, vanilla cake bomb

  • Taste:

Medium mouth feel. Surprisingly buttery. No real heat. Sweet cream, honey, toffee. Light pepper and tobacco, faint earthiness. Overall though its all sweet and cake-y.

  • Finish:

Short with little heat. Some pretty apparent bitterness is here, although it is along with loads of caramel and sweetness.

  • Overall:

Great until the finish, which seems more or less like a pretty consistent gripe I have with some of these entry expressions from the core line. That said, it's not bad, but I still think the Quinta is my favorite of the core offerings.
