Glenkinchie Distillers Edition Single Malt Scotch Whisky is produced in Scotland using some of the country’s largest stills. First matured in refill American and European oak casks, it is finished in Amontillado-seasoned re-charred American oak casks with heavily re-charred new ends. Bottled at 43% ABV in 750 ml format, it is priced at around $57.99.
This has a lot of wonderful elements and I enjoyed most of them. However, the Scotch does not appear to really commit to any one profile or direction. The result is a lot of flavors all vying for your attention but not really working together.
The nutty quality of the wine helps to intensify the oaky character in the whisky. Slightly sweet with a molasses and caramel factor, the whisky concludes with more nuts covered in spices.
