Glendronach Ode to the Valley is a Highland single malt Scotch whisky matured in a combination of ex-sherry and ex-Ruby Port casks. Bottled at 46.2% ABV, it is non-chill filtered. Produced in Forgue, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, it forms part of The Master’s Anthology, a three-whisky series created by Master Blender Dr. Rachel Barrie to showcase the distillery’s use of Spanish sherry casks. The series launched in December 2024 with availability in the U.K. and Germany, and saw a global release in 2025.
On the austere side on the palate, the whisky has the gravitas of a well-aged and sherried malt, showcasing bright citrus fruit alongside notes of mushroom, soy, and overdue library books.
More bright fruit grabs the palate with back notes of marzipan, tonka bean, baking spices, dried dates, and apricot. The bright medium-bodied flavor profile finishes with a buttery salinity.
I find this rather pleasant, really, a touch winesky but done in a lovely manner. It’s well controlled, within that increasingly prevalent style in Scotland
