The GlenDronach Original 12 Years Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a Highland Scotch from Scotland made from single malt and matured for 12 years in sherry and American oak casks. Bottled at 43% ABV in a 750 ml format.
The palate is quite rich and seductive, those nutty walnut and polished wood notes really driving the agenda, which ultimately leads you down a road to creme brulee, more toffee, toasted marshmallow, and hits of clove-studded orange, a citrusy overtone which lingers on the finish for quite some time.
GlenDronach 12 has become rather expensive of late, but even at $75 (and cheaper if you go a-hunting) it’s still worthwhile as one of the most reliable 12 year old single malts on the market.
A delightfully youthful introductory Highland Single Malt that shows off the elegance and balance achievable using sherry barrels without having to hit you in the face like a sherry bomb.
A wave of sweetness at the outset, powdered sugar, which soon transforms into warm barrel spice. Next, satisfying notes of malted biscuit. Freshly baked pastry, warming. Finally, delicate flavours of dried apricots emerge, adding a subtle fruitiness to the mix. The overall impression? Tasty!
