This gin comes to us from Freeland Spirits, a women-owned and operated Portland distillery. Drawing inspiration from the Forest Park, an expansive urban forest reserve located five blocks away from Freeland Spirits Distillery, Forest Gin is made with ingredients that grow right in the spirit producer's backyard woods: chanterelle mushrooms, Douglas fir tips, salal berries and nettle, oh my!

  • Fun and interesting, but not a gin I think I’d reach for often. That said, it’s one I am happy is on my shelf.

  • The gin has a lovely, oily mouthfeel that is most enjoyable when sipped neat, and I recommend trying it that way, but I found that it reaches its absolute best in a Gibson or a dirty martini where the earthy notes can take center stage and really shine: deep, savory, and delicious.

  • Nose:

Pine forward and filled with sap, lime and lemon, white pepper and a hint of nutmeg. Really fascinating blend of notes here on the nose.

  • Taste:

Floral and perfum-y, thin on the palate but full of pine needle, caraway, orange peel and cracked pepper.

  • Finish:

Medium finish, pleasant and fruitier than expected. Bright and effervescent, full of pepper, pine and lime.

  • Overall:

Fun and interesting, but not a gin I think I’d reach for often. That said, it’s one I am happy is on my shelf.
