Four Roses Experimental Series No. 001 is a Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey produced at Four Roses Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. It uses a six-year-old OBSK recipe with a high-rye mash bill of 60% corn, 35% rye and 5% malted barley, fermented with the K yeast strain. The bourbon is finished in Japanese Mizunara oak barrels, marking the distillery’s first secondary cask finish. Bottled at 104 proof (52% ABV) in a 375ml format, it retails for $55 and is available exclusively at Four Roses visitor centers.
Nicely tight aroma of wood, char and mildly sweet spice sachet. The Mizunara adds a deeper thrum to the flavor profile giving it a low-end boost of intense wood. There is also a lovely spiciness afforded in the higher and brighter notes.
