Flor de Caña is a sustainable rum brand from Nicaragua and is certified Fair Trade and has a carbon neutral footprint. This Flor de Caña is aged for 18 years in bourbon barrels sealed with plantain leaves. The rum is apparently additive-free and bottled at the standard 40%. Let's give it a go!
Overall, this is a totally competent Nicaraguan rum and it’s pleasant to see both a real age statement and a lack of glaringly obvious dosage in this bottling as well.

House Review
Nose:
Rich maple syrup, brown sugar, toffee and creme brulee. It’s sweet and heavy and rich on the nose - perhaps suspiciously so.
Taste:
Moderate mouthfeel, tons of maple, honey, caramel, pepper and a fat bunch of pipe tobacco. Light oak, faintly spicy, sweet but not syrupy or artificial.
Finish:
Short finish but pleasant enough, loaded with maple, dough, caramels and pipe tobacco.
