Today we have the pleasure of trying out Fistful of Bourbon - a bottle seen in the paws of bloggers and influences the internet across. This is a 2 year blend of straight bourbons by William Grant and Sons, and I snagged a bottle for about $23. Let's see how it is.
This isn’t going to go down as a hidden gem like the Weller brand used to be, or other hidden gems that only those in the know, know about. Instead, it's a budget bourbon that offers more than it has any right to, in a time when good inexpensive bourbons have become a relic of the past.
The palate offers peanuts and spices, however young spirit juts out, with green stick and slightly antiseptic flavors out of synch with the ample toasted oak.
The taste is thick and spicy with black pepper and cinnamon complemented by honey, vanilla, a touch of caramel, and ginger root. The finish is long and spicy with an underlying sweetness.
I think experienced drinkers might find this to be a tad on the boring and unchallenging side with the soft sweet profile, but welcoming and useful for those starting out or who like a soft sweet style.

House Review
Nose:
Young but inoffensive on the nose. Not a ton going on, but the youth is unmistakeable. Corn flakes, honey, light almost, some wet grass. No must or offensive maltiness, though.
Taste:
Thin on the palate. No heat. Sweet, musty and fairly unremarkable. Some almond, some honey, faint bit of peach.
Finish:
Short finish, but it's hot and loaded with musty youth.
Overall:
Not a fan of this, though it's priced fine for what it is. The quality here is lacking, though, and I bet even just two more years of maturation would turn this into something worth looking forward to drinking.
