Finlaggan Old Reserve has peat written all over it. Even to a point, where it started to feel a bit one-sided. Especially the nose felt dull, even though it was strong, which is the way I like it.
Peat smoke comes into focus on the palate along with a nice balance of sweet apples, moss, and barrel spices. The finish is warm and stays with the smoke to the end.
Bottled at 40% ABV, this whisky is a soft, well balanced peaty malt that may be a good alternative for those who would like to spend less than the more expensive name brands. F
Finlaggan Old Reserve is a decent dram and one hell of a mystery. Soft and full it has a strong malty presence that gives it a youthful quality that is fun and inviting.
