Fincasa de la Tierra Rum Barrel Finish Rye Whiskey is distilled by MGP in Indiana using a mash bill of 51% rye, 45% corn and 4% malted barley. The whiskey aged five years and nine months before a six-month finish in Barbados rum barrels, with a portion of aging in Miami. It is bottled at 50% ABV and retails for about $80.
As the whiskey transitions toward the finish, additional complexity shows up. Pencil shavings and the charred edge of toast crust appear first, before easing into hazelnut coffee creamer at the close. The ending reinforces the strengths of the palate rather than introducing anything jarring.
