Few Immortal Rye Whiskey by Few Spirits is a grain-to-glass rye whiskey from Chicago, proofed with cold-extracted 8 Immortals oolong tea. Bottled at 46.5% ABV, it is available in a 750 ml size for $44.50.
It's a great idea, though I'm not sure that it was the right combination. In regards to flavor profile, I could see the oolong going better with an American single malt.
The palate is dry and nutty, austere and spare: cocoa powder, herbal oak, licorice tea, mint, raw walnuts, and pecans. More walnuts, mint, licorice, dry oak, and black pepper on the finish.
All told, this is a really interesting concept that is, unfortunately, a bit undone by a base spirt that’s a bit too young and brash when paired with the delicate character of the tea.
