Ferrand 10 Générations Cognac is crafted from Ugni Blanc grapes in the Grande Champagne region of France. This spirit is distilled slowly on fine lees and aged in French oak barrels, with 20% aged in Sauternes casks. The blend honors 10 generations of the Ferrand family, who have been producing cognac since 1630.
The underbrush-and-oak character is never far from sight, however, and it leaves the finish a bit more muddied than it should be. For 60 bucks, though, it’ll do.
Each sip opens citrusy and bright, with a drying midpalate that leads to finish a with a surprising meaty, umami-like note, all wrapped in subtle honeycomb.
