Evan Williams 12 Year 101 Proof is a straight bourbon produced by Heaven Hill and sold under the Old Evan Williams Distillery name. It is aged 12 years and made from a mashbill of 78% corn, 12% malted barley and 10% rye. Bottled at 101 proof, the bourbon carries a suggested retail price of $130.
This is by far the best Evan Williams I have tasted. The nose on this bourbon was exceptional and it kept getting better with time in the glass. Although it was a little thin on the palate, the layers of spice were really pleasant for the overall profile and the medium-long finish made up for what was lacking on the front end.
Evan Williams 12 Year is surprisingly a “Top Shelf” bourbon, and I really wasn’t expecting it to be. I guess I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect, but turns out it’s dark, rich, intense, oaky, and spicy yet still avoids being unbalanced, making it a fantastic bourbon to drink, enjoy, savor, and buy again.
Even with its high price, Evan Williams 12 Year 101 Proof is a classic bourbon sip at heart, making it a bottle that should be on everyone’s list when they find themself in Louisville, Kentucky.
