Engine Gin's recycled aluminum vessel takes a cue from the rugged charm of oil and fuel cans, aiming to channel the adrenaline of the racing world. Crafted in Italy, this 42% ABV spirit features a medley of Sicilian lemon zest, Alta Langa sage, licorice, juniper and damask rose.

  • The overall effect is rather savory, earthy, and herbal with hints of citrus and florals. This is a gin that would work best in savory cocktails or those with bright, citrus-forward ingredients.

  • Gently grassy — Engine mentions sage in its tasting notes, which isn’t wrong — the gin sees some milder, almost nutty earth tones develop late in the game and a final hint of that licorice.

  • While a fun and novel concept from a packaging standpoint, the gin is likely to be a touch divisive from a flavor perspective.

  • A bit fiery, lightweight in the body, and a somewhat off selection of botanicals to call this a London Dry style. Interesting but not to our taste.

  • Nose:

Bright and a touch heady on the nose, good bit of ethanol, bright juniper, a hint of citrus and some cream. After resting a few minutes, it opens up really nicely.

  • Taste:

Sweet on the palate, the juniper backs down a touch, letting through some coriander, lavender, jasmine and a touch of what feels like basil. Interesting, herbal, sweet and lovely.

  • Finish:

Long finish. The proof pops here a touch despite being 42% but the herbal complexity and a pleasant sweetness carry nicely.

  • Overall:

Overall, this may be gin in a unique package, and maybe one that doesn’t inspire you to believe it’s fancy or premium, but the surprising and important part is that the gin is super solid. It’s well balanced, well made and downright delicious.
