  • The palate is spicy—both sweet and hot—with flavors of toasted pine nuts, fried sage, and more of that buttery caramelized apple note.

  • All the classic rye notes are there, combining sweeter elements like vanilla, maple, and honey with notes of black pepper, dried fruit, cinnamon, and some grape Jolly Rancher.

  • Nose:

The nose is delicious, well balanced and rich. Demerara, cinnamon, sassafras, cherry, frosting, mocha and horseradish.

  • Taste:

My first impression of the palate is that this is a very oaky rye. Dusty oak meets gingerbread, cinnamon, molasses, cherry, lemon candies, coffee bean and leather. The back palate brings a pleasant peanut brittle note.

  • Finish:

Long, satisfying finish. Cinnamon and nutmeg lead into sunflower seeds, lemon peel, leather, cacao, coffee grounds.

  • Overall:

It's got some heat to it, but this is a very tasty, well-aged bourbon lover’s rye. It’s spicy, well balanced and just delicious rye. This is great stuff and a worthy addition to Heaven Hill's regular-release lineup of barrel-proof whiskeys.
