The second of three releases in 2022's Limited Edition calendar, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof B522 is released at a moderately low ABV compared to some historical bottlings. The first bottling of this year weighs in at 60.5%. ECBP carries a consistent 12yr age statement.

House Review
  • Nose:

    A hefty nose, full of maple, barrel char, strong oak, bold pepper, butter cream and toffee. Interestingly enough, not a ton of ethanol comes through, it's just pure, sweet, dessert.

  • Taste:

    Rich on the palate. Packed with waffle cone, a hefty oak character, butter scotch, barrel char, maple syrup and brown butter. Sweet, oaky, dry and full of character. Viscous and syrupy on the palate, it transitions very well from front of palate to back of palate. Not at all punishing on the palate, loaded with flavor.

  • Finish:

    Long finish, syrupy and satisfying once more. Tons of barrel char, sweet oak, more nougat, brown sugar and this fresh baked praline note. It finishes pretty elegantly - the proof is evident but not overpowering and works well here.

  • Overall:

    Overall, B522 is one of the best of recent releases. The combination of char, maple, nougat and viscosity is a winner, and at 60.5% ABV, there's no shortage of flavor.
