All told, it’s a perfectly fine example of Elijah Craig’s Barrel Proof whiskey, but its lack of direction and balance keeps it well off my list of favorites.
It’s hard to argue with the value that is Elijah Craig Barrel Proof, cask strength 12yr old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey at $65 is unheard of from any other distillery these days.
It begins sweetly and then blossoms into something warming (at this proof it had better light up your insides!). Yet it is also kind of toasty and comforting.
The taste is intense and peppery with chili powder, black pepper, and cinnamon spices that fade slowly to reveal honey, caramel, and brown sugar in the background.
