  • Wonderfully creamy mouthfeel stuffed to the brim with all things dried fruit. Getting a lot of blackberry, dates and apricot, plenty more nutmeg and ginger, and a distinct nuttiness that balances bitter walnut with sweet marzipan.

  • Nose:

It looks like a reposado, but smells like an extra añejo. Dense, toasty aromas of baked plum, pecan, grape jelly, brown butter, cloves and cinnamon. There's an unmistakable lick of ginger lingering underneath, tying everything together with a spicy, slightly tannic touch.

  • Taste:

Wonderfully creamy mouthfeel stuffed to the brim with all things dried fruit. Getting a lot of apple, dates and apricot, plenty more nutmeg and ginger, and a distinct nuttiness that balances bitter walnut with sweet marzipan. The Yamazaki influence is present in full force, but manages to leave just enough room for the roasted agave flavor to shine through alongside it.

  • Finish:

Settles in for the long haul with flashes of spiced honey, oak, cinnamon, white pepper and apple pie. A bit of crunchy green agave makes it through as well, adding a vegetal undertone.

  • Overall:

Easily my favorite bottling in the Mundial collection thus far. It pulls off a tricky balance between bold, in-your-face Yamazaki flavor and the subtly of an aged tequila, even if those whiskey influences definitely win out in the end. There are a few specific flavors here — nuttiness, ginger and dates — that are nigh impossible to find in other añejos. It's a unique touch that more than justifies its bespoke cask finish, and a slam dunk for Christmas gifting if there ever was one.
