  • The palate is extremely pretty (in only the best way), with honey and agave nectar added to the mix, along with lashings of pepper. The finish is consistent, though oddly less persistent than the blanco--perhaps due to its suavity.

  • The notes from the raw tequila spirit are shining through and balancing nicely with the oak barrel aging components — that is, until the finish rolls around, at which point a good hit of bitterness sweeps in and pretty much ruins the experience.

  • Don Julio’s Añejo tequila is top shelf stuff. This aged spirit has an immediate kick of vanilla, butterscotch, and Christmas spices, with a good, mellowed agave flavor that seeps into all of it. The wood is there, but it’s not overdone.
